Chemical formula: (C6H10O2)n

Name: (1,7) - Polyoxepan-2-one, Poly (Hexano-6-lactone). Other names: 2-Oxepanone homopolymer, 6-Caprolactone polymer

Polycaprolactone (PCL) is a biodegradable polyester. PCL is synthesized from crude oil or through the ring-opening polymerization reaction ε-caprolacton with catalysis (device octane). PCL has high toughness and biocompatibility. Physical properties:

+ Melting temperature 60oC

+ Vitrification temperature is about -60 °C

+ Elongation 30~50%

+ Specific gravity 1.11g/ml

+ Inherent viscosity 1.0-1.3 dl/g

+ Tensile strength 3000-5000 dsi.

+ Polycaprolactone is stable in water, oils, solvents and chlorine.

Other outstanding features of PCL:

It decomposes more slowly than other biodegradable polyesters under normal physiological conditions.

+ Non-toxic, good compatibility with many polymers, so can blend with other polymers.

+ When combined with calcium phosphate group, PCL good adhesion, which helps to increase cell proliferation favorably.

APPLICATION OF PCL

- Bone replacement: Bones play a bearing role for the body during life and movement, cracks or fractures very long healing and during recovery, the bearing bone is very poor. For steel nails or braces to fix, these devices will be removed, the bones will be weak and the risk of breaking again is very high. Using PCL will make the material that binds to the bone stay in the bone longer and will be hydrolyzed gradually over time, giving the bone time to heal and strengthen the bearing of the bone.

- Drug distribution in the human body: PCL is used as a device device that controls the process of drug distribution in the human body.

- Use as self-suture: traditional sutures cost both time and money for the doctor and the patient because within 7-10 days after suturing, the patient must come to get the suture out. If a suture made from PCL is used, it is no longer necessary to save costs and time, as it will decompose over time.
